Curriculum content – secondary

In Years 7, 8 and 9, students follow a broad curriculum taught by specialists within separate subject departments. We place much emphasis on the core areas of literacy and numeracy, as these are the basis of success in all subjects. Within Science, students study elements of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. In Modern Foreign Languages (MFL), students study French, together with Spanish or German from Year 8. Computing, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is taught as a separate subject in Years 7, 8 and 9.

In Years 10 and 11, students can choose subjects from a broad range of GCSE, and some vocational courses. The school-based learning programme is enhanced by visits to places such as Norwich Castle and the Swaffham Ecotech Centre. A ‘chocolate day’ is a very effective part of the Year 7 literacy programme! Curriculum enhancement days include an adventure activities programme at Bramley Lakes for Year 7 and an expressive arts programme, including a London visit, for Year 8.   A range of visits to other countries, have included the Normandy beaches, German Christmas markets and Paris at the end of October, as well as the annual ski trip.

In the upper school, specialist visits are made in connection with GCSE and other study programmes. Students have the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme and work experience is part of the curriculum in Year 10.

Years 10 & 11 ICT Courses

Our students are studying the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) which will equip them with the skills to use a computer confidently and effectively; building on their existing knowledge and motivating further learning. It is recognised and valued by employers around the world as a benchmark in IT user competence.
