Our primary phase offers a vibrant and caring environment, focused on ensuring that children have the best possible start to their education. We work in partnership with parents and carers and welcome your involvement with the school; there are frequent informal opportunities, such as the Reading and Maths Cafés, for you to come into school and to work alongside your child. Termly consultation meetings provide a more formal opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with his/her teacher.
The accommodation includes four classrooms, a hall, well-resourced library and we also have use of the adjacent Children’s Centre teaching kitchen. Outside, children have access to a rich environment in which to exercise, learn and relax. Features include a large playing field, trim trail, willow tunnel, tyre park, raised beds and a pond.
There are four classes: a separate reception class and three others covering years 1 to 6. The admission number is 15 for the reception class, a number which is small enough to enable us to focus on the individual child, but provides plenty of opportunities to make friends and develop social skills. Children are mainly taught by their class teacher, but will also be taught by specialist music and PE teachers. In addition, pupils in years 5 and 6 also have specialist teachers for information and communications technology (ICT) and French, supporting the move from a primary to a secondary culture.
Being part of an all-through school makes the move from the primary to the secondary phase is very straightforward. All pupils in year 6 automatically have a place in year 7, the first year of the secondary phase. Year 5 and 6 pupils make several visits to the secondary site, including induction days in the summer term of year 6.
