Background to Litcham School

On 1 September 2010, the governing bodies of Litcham Primary School and Litcham High School amalgamated.  At that time, we were very clear that this would probably be the first stage towards amalgamation of the two schools.  Over the following months we gave the subject a lot of attention and the unanimous decision was taken at our June 2011 meeting to ask the local authority to set up the process which would lead to a merger.  Following consultation with parents and other interested parties, the merger decision was announced in January 2012, and came into effect on 1st September 2012.

As the governing body, we believe the two schools will benefit in many ways from the amalgamation and that it will help secure the long term future of education in Litcham, as financial pressures make the survival of small schools ever more difficult.  For the foreseeable future, the schools will continue to operate on the current two sites.

We believe that all of the primary schools within the Litcham Learning Community will also benefit from the curriculum development and sharing of expertise in teaching and learning which will be facilitated by the amalgamation.  There will not be any change to the admission arrangements to Litcham School at year 7 for pupils from primary schools.
